Meat

As soon as we read Meat, the debut novel by Joseph d’Lacey, we were struck by the strength of the story: a decaying town where the population, trapped by a wilderness, depend on Meat, and the powers that provide it, for their survival.

We optioned the film rights and approached John Costello to write the screenplay.

The novel is marketed as horror, and according to global horror genius Stephen King, “Joseph d’Lacey rocks!”. But we see much more than horror. Meat is a complex study of the abuse of power in a fundamentally flawed society.

John Costello is screenwriting lecturer at Warwick University, and author of ‘Science Fiction Films’, ‘Writing a Screenplay’ and ‘David Cronenbourg’ in the Pocket Essentials series.

Quality writing is the foundation of successful film, so we’re delighted to be working with Joseph and John, and excited to be making Meat. The story is complex and vivid, with strong moral and ethical themes. It’s different in all the right ways.

John is close to completing a third draft script and we are looking forward to developing the project over the coming months.
